Alley Hart Memorial Fund
Alley had many friends at the YMCA and spent his time playing basketball and pickleball with others. He played basketball at Wake Forest University and continued to play the game throughout his life, winning five gold medals in the NC Senior Olympics and two gold medals in the National Senior Olympics. He was a big fan of pickleball and a member of the Cape Fear Pickleball Club and YMCA. We are honored to host a celebration of life for Alley Hart at the Nir Family YMCA on Sunday, March 3rd 2025, at 1:00PM.

Bill Rose Memorial Fund
Bill was a member of the YMCA for more than 55 years and served for several years on the YMCA's board of directors and finance committee. He loved playing racquetball with his friends and was able to keep playing this "lifegiving" game at 81. He would encourage you to do the same and join your local Y. Nelson Britto Memorial Fund
Nelson was a member of the Nir Family YMCA (formerly Wilmington Family YMCA) for many years and enjoyed being a part of our Y community. We look forward to honoring Nelson's life and legacy here at the YMCA and appreciate your support.
Henry Singletary Memorial Fund
Henry (Hank) Singletary, M.D. was involved with the YMCA for more than 50 years as a member, donor and former board chair. He was well-known in the race community and competed in numerous triathlons, swimming and running events, frequently winning his age group. Donations made in Hank’s memory will support the YMCA’s Swim for Life program and our Annual Campaign – ensuring everyone has access to the YMCA regardless of their ability to pay.
Steven Cooper Memorial Fund
Steve spent many hours playing and coaching children’s sports. His most recent involvement with the YMCA was coaching his grandchildren in the YMCA's Flag Football League. Donations made in Steve's memory were used to purchase team benches for the Midtown YMCA's athletic fields, and provide scholarships for the YMCA's youth sports leagues.
William H. Craig Memorial Fund
Dr. William H. Craig served the YMCA for more than 20 years. He served two terms as President and more than 15 years on the Board of Directors. He loved all programs at the YMCA especially those involving youth. Today the fund supports the YMCA’s Girls on the Run and Stride programs, a camper sponsorship for Victory Junction, and the YMCA Endowment Fund.
Robert Ledbetter Memorial Fund
Robert Ledbetter was a long-time member and supporter of the Y. Robert's his wife Edythe has asked that gifts be made to support YMCA programs and services provided to the community.
Joe Bradley Memorial Fund
This fund is in memory of Joe Bradley who served on the YMCA’s Board of Directors and Resource Development Committee and as chaired the Y’S Annual Giving Campaign. This fund supports Joe’s passion and love for the YMCA. Joe struggled with the challenges of Diabetes in the later part of his life. Donations to the Joe Bradley Memorial Fund support our Diabetes Prevention Program, which serves those who are at risk of developing Type II diabetes.
Ken Davis Memorial Fund
Ken Davis was a YMCA staff member for more than 5 years. His love for children was apparent as he worked with our Afterschool Care, Youth Soccer, Youth Basketball and Summer Camp programs. Ken’s uplifting words and positive attitude touched many children, families and friends of the Y. Donations to this fund are used for summer camp scholarships. Children who would not otherwise be able to attend camp are able to have a summer camp experience that they will remember for years to come.
Ernie Hobbie Memorial Fund
This fund recognizes the lifelong effort of Ernest P. Hobbie, aka “The Shot Doctor”, for his work in education and motivation with basketball players of all ages. He was well known and respected throughout the basketball world especially in the Wilmington basketball community. This fund supports the Wilmington Family YMCA’s basketball program with special clinics throughout the year and has helped the YMCA to purchase basketballs, a shot clock and scorer’s table.
Robert Hodges Memorial Fund
This Fund was set up in memory of Robert Hodges, a former college basketball coach that loved to spend time at the YMCA. Robert enjoyed talking with his friends at the YMCA and embraced the Y’s mission. Money from this fund has been used for equipment for the basketball program, a game that Robert loved.
Ed Peters Memorial Fund
Ed Peters was a personal trainer, an incredible athlete and a dear part of our Y family. He was an inspiration to many of our members and staff during the 23 years he worked at the Y.
Bill Stanfield Memorial Fund
This fund is in memory of Bill Stanfield who was a dedicated member of the YMCA for many years. Bill considered the Y as an extension of his own family and developed many relationships that reached far beyond exercise. He was a long-time supporter of the YMCA and made generous contributions that supported the Y's Triathlon Club and helped renovate our weight room.
