STRIDE is for 3rd through 5th grade boys and STRIDE Too is for boys in middle school, grades 6th-8th. There is no need to have any previous running experience and kids don't even have to consider themselves athletic to participate. The great thing about running is that anyone can do it! You don't need lots of money or time to get in shape and learn a new skill. Come join the fun and experience the positive rewards of finishing a race and stepping across the finish line!

Unique Program
These programs aren't just about finishing a race. They're about developing a lifetime of healthy habits and healthy living. Every participant learns valuable life lessons that include:

  • nutrition and fitness
  • goal setting
  • communication skills
  • making a difference
  • working as a team
  • character development

There are no comparable programs to Girls on the Run and STRIDE. They are unique in the genre of youth programs. It incorporates physical activity to teach very specific and well-defined social and personal skills. Research validates that the development of these skills prevents the future display of at risk behaviors including early onset of sexual activity, disordered eating, depression and anxiety, substance and alcohol abuse and confrontations with the juvenile justice system.

5K Celebration
Girls on the Run and STRIDE of Coastal Carolina hosts their own unique 5K celebrations at the end of each season. All Girls on the Run and STRIDE participants throughout the region come together for one of the semi-annual 5k (3.1 mile) runs held in their area. The runs, presented by the Wilmington Family YMCA, are the culminating event of the participants' season. The races are open to the general public. The race proceeds support Girls on the Run and STRIDE of Coastal Carolina.
