Afterschool Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Afterschool sites are available at the Wilmington Family YMCA, Midtown YMCA, Parsley Elementary, Castle Hayne Elementary, and Coastal Preparatory Academy Charter School. Available hours are Monday through Friday from as early as 2pm to as late as 6pm and as needed for Teacher Workdays and Holidays. May also provide support in other areas as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  2. Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  3. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
  4. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  5. Ensures parents are kept informed of all site and program activities and communicates both positive and negative behavior of children to parents.
  6. Maintains program site and equipment.
  7. Maintains required program records including attendance sheets, incident sheets, and behavior reports.
  8. Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  9. Follows and implements the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards.

CDL Bus Driver

Job Type: Part Time

Location: Wilmington Family YMCA

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere. Transportation needs include driving for Summer Camp (Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 4:30 throughout the summer), driving for Afterschool (Monday through Friday from 1:45 to anywhere from 3:00 to 6:00) and a partnership with GLOW Academy in which we transport students to and from school (Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 9:15am and 3:45 to 5:30pm). May also provide support in other areas as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
  2. Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Cleans out bus each day.
  3. Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
  4. Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
  5. Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
  6. Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.

Group Exercise Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY:
Instructs group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
  2. Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  3. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
  4. Keeps accurate class attendance records.
  5. Responsible for walking around and making adjustments and correcting form during class.
  6. Assist in maintaining equipment and informing Director of any breakage or items needing replacement
  7. Report to work 5 minutes prior to class to prepare for class and ensure proper set up and tear down of class.
  8. Responsible for covering their class. Any substitutes should be called into their Director/coordinator.
  9. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.

SilverArts Coordinator

Job Type: Part Time

POSITION SUMMARY:
Work closely with Local Stakeholders, the Senior Games by the Sea Board, the Senior Games Coordinator, and the Healthy Living Director to implement a successful SilverArts program.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Administer a quality visual, heritage, literary and performing arts competition in our community.
  2. Adhere to NC State Senior Games program requirements and policies.
  3. Attend the new coordinators training and annual conference/local coordinators’ association meeting.
  4. Lead all aspects of SilverArts sub-committee meetings including inviting prospective board members, scheduling, agenda, and facilitation.
  5. Attend all Senior Games by the Sea board meetings.
  6. Attend as many Senior Games by the Sea monthly activities as possible.
  7. Lead all aspects of the Arts-related monthly activity including marketing, promotion, and logistics.
  8. Assist with the development and distribution of marketing material for Games & Arts competition.
  9. Enter registration information and results on a regular basis into Games software.
  10. Answer participant inquiries via email and phone both pre & post local competition.
  11. Work with stakeholders to implement SiverArts competition and grow participation.
  12. Able to work independently and be self-directed, with limited supervision.
  13. Recruit and train volunteer judges for events.
  14. Ability to motivate and coordinate volunteers and participants.
  15. Use personal vehicle for games-related business.

Swim Instructor

The Y is a leading nonprofit for strengthening community, and the nation's larger provider of swim lessons to increase skill and safety in and around water . This position provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.
