Afterschool Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Afterschool sites are available at the Wilmington Family YMCA, Midtown YMCA, Parsley Elementary, Castle Hayne Elementary, and Coastal Preparatory Academy Charter School. Available hours are Monday through Friday from as early as 2pm to as late as 6pm and as needed for Teacher Workdays and Holidays. May also provide support in other areas as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  2. Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  3. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
  4. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  5. Ensures parents are kept informed of all site and program activities and communicates both positive and negative behavior of children to parents.
  6. Maintains program site and equipment.
  7. Maintains required program records including attendance sheets, incident sheets, and behavior reports.
  8. Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.

Assistant Aquatics Coordinator

Scheduling, Hiring, and training for Lifeguards. This person will also be the on call at the YMCA. Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Does schedule for the Lifeguard shifts at the YMCA.
  2. Required lifeguard duties and responsibilities.

  4. To be on call for the YMCA when guards are not be to attend shift.
  5. To assist Aquatics Director with monthly in-service for Lifeguards.

Assistant Swim Coach

The Y is a leading nonprofit for strengthening community, and the nation’s larger provider of swim lessons to increase skill and safety in and around water. This position provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Effectively communicate the mission, vision and the values of the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina
  2. Ensure the swim team complies with YMCA standards and methods of operation
  3. Ensure the swim team complies with USA Swimming standards and methods of operation
  4. Integrate member-service and engagement strategies into all interactions with parents to ensure positive team recruitment and retention
  5. Promote, build and expand the program enrollment and participation and support all YMCA programming.
  6. Support, develop and show measure success at coaching groups for intro groups and assisting with age group swimmers and senior swimmers with the team director to identify direction and objective for each group.   7. On Deck Coaching responsibilities will start at 4:00PM and end at 8:00PM Monday – Friday

  10. Assist with the mentoring of the part time staff remaining consistent with Head Coach’s ideology.
  11. Attend swim meets that include the participation of swimmers that you coach. 1-2 weekends a month outside of championship season.
  12. Attend and support team activities’ that may be outside of the on deck coaching realm
  13. Attend monthly coach’s meeting and share best practices
  14. Attend monthly committee meeting when requested to do so
  15. Be visible to coaches, parents and members
  16. Take attendance at each practice

Blood Pressure Self Monitoring Heart Healthy Coach

The YMCA is seeking caring individuals with good facilitation skills to support and encourage health seeking participants in a Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program (BPSM). Qualified candidates will visit area barbershops, alongside New Hanover Regional Medical Center staff, in support of a partnership program-- the Barbershop Initiative-- to establish relationships with patrons, identify individuals who qualify for the program, and share information about the program. Candidates will also conduct individual consultations (times TBD) at the Nir Family YMCA (2710 Market St) to measure and record participants’ blood pressure, and support individuals with program goals for the duration of the program. 

Candidates must be available on Saturdays from 9a-1pm, beginning April 13th. Other hours will vary. (YMCA Program Manager will do their best to accommodate candidates’ availability.)

A medical background is not required. However, qualified candidates should have a basic knowledge of high blood pressure and be able to maintain a consistently positive and non-judgmental attitude while providing support and encouragement to participants as they build a habit of self-monitoring. Candidates must also be comfortable working with culturally diverse populations.

A required training will be held on Friday, April 12th (Times TBD; held at the Nir Family YMCA, 2710 Market St). Candidates MUST be able to attend this training to be considered.

 

5 – 10 hrs. week seasonal position.

Pay range: $12- $14.40 per/hr.

CDL Bus Driver

Job Type: Part Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere. Transportation needs include driving for Summer Camp (Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 4:30 throughout the summer), driving for Afterschool (Monday through Friday from 1:45 to anywhere from 3:00 to 6:00) and a partnership with GLOW Academy in which we transport students to and from school (Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 9:15am and 3:45 to 5:30pm). May also provide support in other areas as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
  2. Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Cleans out bus each day.
  3. Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
  4. Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
  5. Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
  6. Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum age of 18.
  2. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
  3. Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding
  4. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  5. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  6. CPO Preferred(Required within 90 days of hire)
  7. WSI-Water Safety instructor preferred
  8. 1-2 years preferred in managing staff

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
  2. Must be able to remain alert.
  3. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
  4. Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
  5. Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
  6. Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.

Our Express Y branch is looking to hire a part-time Member Service Representative to work afternoon shifts at approximately 20 hours/week. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Assists in all aspects of membership for the branch including recruitment of new members, retention of existing members and providing the highest quality service to members and the community.
