POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Afterschool sites are available at the Wilmington Family YMCA, Midtown YMCA, Parsley Elementary, Castle Hayne Elementary, and Coastal Preparatory Academy Charter School. Available hours are Monday through Friday from as early as 2pm to as late as 6pm and as needed for Teacher Workdays and Holidays. May also provide support in other areas as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  2. Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  3. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
  4. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  5. Ensures parents are kept informed of all site and program activities and communicates both positive and negative behavior of children to parents.

Assistant Swim Coach

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Y is a leading nonprofit for strengthening community, and the nation’s larger provider of swim lessons to increase skill and safety in and around water. This position provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes. Cape Fear Aquatic Club in Wilmington, NC is seeking a part-time assistant swim coach. The assistant coach will lead our athletes during practices and meets, instructing and inspiring our swimmers in a fun and positive environment. Three to five evening shifts per week are required, which may range from one to three hours depending on the age group; there will also be regularly scheduled weekend meets that range from 8 to 12 hours each. Hours can be discussed based on groups that this position may coach. This position may be seasonal or year-round.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Effectively communicate the mission, vision and the values of the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina
  2. Ensure the swim team complies with YMCA standards and methods of operation
  3. Ensure the swim team complies with USA Swimming standards and methods of operation
  4. Integrate member-service and engagement strategies into all interactions with parents to ensure positive team recruitment and retention
  5. Promote, build and expand the program enrollment and participation and support all YMCA programming.
  6. Support, develop and show measure success at coaching groups for intro groups and assisting with age group swimmers and senior swimmers with the team director to identify direction and objective for each group.   7. On Deck Coaching responsibilities will start at 4:00PM and end at 8:00PM Monday – Friday
  8. On Deck Coaching responsibilities will start at 6:00AM and end at 10:00AM Saturday
  9. On Deck Coaching summer hours will vary pending pool space and availability.
  10. Assist with the mentoring of the part time staff remaining consistent with Head Coach’s ideology.
  11. Attend swim meets that include the participation of swimmers that you coach. 1-2 weekends a month outside of championship season.
  12. Attend and support team activities’ that may be outside of the on deck coaching realm
  13. Attend monthly coach’s meeting and share best practices
  14. Attend monthly committee meeting when requested to do so
  15. Be visible to coaches, parents and members
  16. Take attendance at each practice
  17. Maintain a workout log for each training group and log all workouts into log books daily
  18. Complete swim meet entries in a timely manner taking into consideration the individual needs of each swimmer entered in the meet
  19. Develop a season plan inclusive of swim meets, team building activities, parent communication and miles that you expect to achieve for each group
  20. Coordinate goal meeting with each swimmer and align coach/swimmer goals for the season
  21. Ensure Coach Certifications are current
  22. Develop and maintain a dryland program that includes age-appropriate that will help in each swimmer’s core strength and development
  23. Communicate effectively with the administrative staff, coaches, parents and swimmers
  24. Respond to all coaching staff, parent member and community inquiries and concerns regarding the team with 24 hours
  25. Communicate swim team information, changes and needs in a timely manner to the supervisor and branch staff
  26. Communicate any time-off that does not fall within the vacation time description in the benefits sections
  27. Assist with team tryouts and new swimmer evaluations and the ability to accurately assess individual swim levels for training purposes

Associate Director

Our Associate Director will oversee the Outdoor Education program during the non-summer months and Day Camp during the summer.  Responsible for hiring and training naturalists throughout the year and expanding the program by marketing and recruiting schools in the area.  The Outdoor Ed program is new to Kirkwood and needs someone committed to quality and expansion.  During the summer, this person will oversee all 9 weeks of Day Camp and continue the tradition of excellence at Kirkwood.

CDL Bus Driver

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere. Transportation needs include driving for Summer Camp (Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 4:30 throughout the summer), driving for Afterschool (Monday through Friday from 1:45 to anywhere from 3:00 to 6:00) and a partnership with GLOW Academy in which we transport students to and from school (Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 9:15am and 3:45 to 5:30pm). May also provide support in other areas as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
  2. Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Cleans out bus each day.
  3. Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
  4. Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
  5. Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area by scanning the pool in a continuous and consistent manner.
  2. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.
  3. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
  4. Knows, understands, and consistently enforces safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  5. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
  6. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Reports these finding to the Pool Manager.
  7. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and throughout the day reports findings to the pool manager.
  8. Performs chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and takes appropriate action.
  9. Attends all staff meetings and in-service training as required.
  10. Provides excellent service to members, guest, and program participants in the Y, to assist with contributing member retention.
  11. Handles and resolves membership concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
  12. Know, understand and consistently apply Daxko Membership policy and procedures if required to.
  13. Maintain accurate Daxko Accounting policy, close-outs and procedures if required to.
  14. Maintains and cleans all restrooms, pool decks, trash cans and parking lot areas.
  15. Must be flexible to work at different locations.
  16. Must always maintain professionalism and be rescue ready.
  17. Reports to duty on time and ready to perform duties.
  18. Must be prepared for extreme weather (may be in the heat/sun for long periods of time)
