Afterschool Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Afterschool sites are available at the Wilmington Family YMCA, Midtown YMCA, Parsley Elementary, Castle Hayne Elementary, and Coastal Preparatory Academy Charter School. Available hours are Monday through Friday from as early as 2pm to as late as 6pm and as needed for Teacher Workdays and Holidays. May also provide support in other areas as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  2. Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  3. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
  4. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  5. Ensures parents are kept informed of all site and program activities and communicates both positive and negative behavior of children to parents.
  6. Maintains program site and equipment.
  7. Maintains required program records including attendance sheets, incident sheets, and behavior reports.
  8. Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  9. Follows and implements the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards.

CDL Bus Driver

Job Type: Part Time
Category: Youth Department

Location: Wilmington Family YMCA

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere. Transportation needs include driving for Summer Camp (Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 4:30 throughout the summer), driving for Afterschool (Monday through Friday from 1:45 to anywhere from 3:00 to 6:00) and a partnership with GLOW Academy in which we transport students to and from school (Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 9:15am and 3:45 to 5:30pm). May also provide support in other areas as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
  2. Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Cleans out bus each day.
  3. Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
  4. Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
  5. Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
  6. Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.

Lifeguard

POSITION SUMMARY:

Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Swim Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Y is a leading nonprofit for strengthening community, and the nation's larger provider of swim lessons to increase skill and safety in and around water . This position provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.
