To help you get to know us a little better, we have decided to start an employee spotlight for both our Midtown YMCA and Express Y branches! This month, learn more about staff members Tom Allyne and Rosa Rivera below:
I have been involved in our Livestrong Cancer program, since it started here, and in various Physability programs, with members - young and old. Working at the Y is always a learning experience and it always gives me the chance to help someone to improve, along the way.
I have become friends with many of our" local " members and over time, and even though I am a Yankee Invader, they have shared their life stories and the history of Wilmington with me. I truly treasure those relationships.
During your visits to work out or take a class, take time to look around at the interaction between our members, and between Staff members. You will hopefully see plenty of smiles, plenty of laughter and plenty of talking. (Ok, maybe TOO much talking!) But you will see folks having fun. It is what the Y is about. It is what we try to do, every day.
And at times, you may see some somber faces. When one of our members or staff has a setback, or is no longer with us, it affects us all…… and THAT is also what it's like to be part of the Y, for we ARE family.
So when friends and neighbors ask why I am working at the Y, or how I like working at the Y ?, There are so many reasons, I really don't have enough time to explain it to them. It's better for folks to see for themselves!
