YMCA Cape Fear Aquatic Club Recruits New Head Coach Scott VanKuilenburg

The Y looks forward to another incredible season for its Cape Fear Aquatic Club. Scott Vankuilenburg joins the Y’s Cape Fear Aquatic Club as Head Coach after serving three years as the Head Age Group Coach for the Water Rats Swim Team at the Westport Weston Family YMCA in Connecticut.

As Head Age Group Coach, Scott led the team’s age group swimmers from a 24th place finish in the first year to a 6th place finish in Spring of 2018 at Connecticut SCY Age Group Championships. Coach Scott has been on deck with all levels of swimming from novice to NCAA qualifiers. Scott’s coaching background includes college level at, Brandeis University DIII, University of Bridgeport DII, and Harvard University DI. Scott has coached Age Group and High School swimmers in Germany, Florida, and California.

Scott graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science in Education/Exercise Physiology after serving five years active duty in the Air Force and reaching the rank of Sergeant. Scott is a five-time USA Masters Swimming (USMS) National Champion, a two-time USMS All-American and a member of the 400 Medley Relay USMS national-record team.

The YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina’s Cape Fear Aquatic Club is a year round competitive swim team offering high quality professional coaching and technique instruction for swimmers of all abilities. The goal of our team is to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability, from novice to international competitor.

Tryouts for the 2018-2019 season will take place at the Wilmington Family YMCA Pool between 3:30pm-6:00pm on the following dates:

August 20, 2018 - 8 & unders

August 21, 2018 - 9-10

August 22, 2018 - 11-12

August 23, 2018 – 13+
