To help you get to know us a little better, we have decided to start an employee spotlight to highlight some of our team members:

Trey Overby

What are your jobs at the Y?
Afterschool Site Director, Summer Camp Counselor, Membership Desk Representative.

How long have you worked at the Y?
6 years

What's your Y story?
My grandfather helped my hometown get their YMCA built and operating. I grew up involved in all the programs and when I was old enough, began working there in the youth department. I worked there until moving to Wilmington for school, and was fortunate enough to begin working at YMCASENC! Working in the youth department helped me decide my career path of wanting to be an elementary school teacher. I will graduate this May with my degree. I am thankful for the YMCA!

What's your favorite thing about working for the Y?
Being a part of community outreach and engagement.

Katy Wishon

What is your job at the Y?
Child Watch Staff

How long have you worked at the Y?
8 years

What is your Y story?
I’ve been coming to the Y since I was kid taking swim lessons. They were the highlight of my week during the summer! Later in high school I got a membership and started weight lifting and taking spin classes with a family friend, who is the one that recommended me for a position in Child Watch. After my interview, I was hired on the spot and started training. The Y has always been a place that I can fall back on and will always be there for me. I am grateful for the opportunities it has allotted me and the connections I have made.

What's your favorite thing about working for the Y?
My favorite thing about the Y is the community and relationship that are built. Each day I have am able to give parents a couple hours to recharge so that they can be the best possible for their family. Another great thing about the Y is the involvement between different departments. I have had the opportunity to work summer/preschool camp, preschool, and have picked up a couple things in the membership department. Having a wide variety of skills within different departments shows team work and responsibility, which is what the Y is all about.

Jason Dunn

Membership Services Representative
Halo Hoops Gym Supervisor
Halo Hoops Referee

How long have you worked at the Y?
I have worked at the Midtown Y for about a year and a half.

What is your Y story?
I played a lot of basketball at the YMCA in my hometown during my high school years, I enjoyed the sense of community and when I moved to Wilmington for school, I applied for a job at the Y.

What do you like best about the Y?
The thing I like most about the Y is the people. I have met so many wonderful people during my time here and those relationships will last a life time. I really enjoy the community aspect of the Y and I’m very thankful because the Y gave me my first friends when I moved to Wilmington in 2017.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy being active and spending time with friends and family. I really enjoy coming to the Y and playing basketball. In the summer I enjoy going to the beach. I am currently in paramedic school and hope to finish soon.

We are so lucky to have a young man like Jason working here at the Midtown YMCA. We know he will make an amazing paramedic and we are excited for what the future holds for him! Jason works most afternoons and some weekends with our Halo Basketball program, make sure you stop by and say hello to him if you see him!
