The Nir Family YMCA is celebrating one year since its highly anticipated grand opening on December 30, 2018. Last year more than 1,000 people came out to see the renovated YMCA during its grand opening event. More than 500 families became members within the first day of opening 2,581 members joined within the first month and membership continues to be vibrant.
“Our YMCA has always had a strong sense of community and when we reopened our doors we were able to not only reunite those who have been with us, but also welcome new members who seek a sense of belonging here at the Y. Watching so many people greet and hug one another in our lobby within our first few months of reopening was a sight to see,” says Shannon Berg, Branch Director for the Nir Family YMCA.
In just one year, the Nir Family YMCA has experienced substantial growth in both membership and programs. Membership has grown almost 10% since January 2019, with a total of 9,629 members at the Nir Family YMCA branch alone. Within its first year of operation, the Nir Family YMCA has provided the community with:
5,200 group exercise classes
750 youth soccer practices
550 hours of pickleball
160 youth basketball games
27 summer camps
Additionally, the Nir Family YMCA introduced several new programs this year to better meet their member’s needs. Adaptive classes, exercise equipment and wellness programs are available for those with physical limitations or injuries. New recreational and social events are offered for active older adults who want to be more involved and connected in the Y. The Y also offers kids and family classes, events and programs that encourage family time.
“With our new facility we have been able to open our doors to the community in so many ways. We have become the hub for people near and far to come together to be connected or reconnected. We have become a true family YMCA with our staff, members and community alike. You feel it as soon as you walk in, and that’s what we are all about,” says Natasha Moore, Membership Director for the Nir Family YMCA.
To celebrate its first anniversary, the Nir Family YMCA will open their doors to the community at large on Monday, December 30th so everyone can give the Y a try! The all-day access will include a variety of programs, classes and activities for families to enjoy including:
