The YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina and the City of Wilmington are pleased to announce the opening of Robert Strange and Legion Stadium pools this summer. Pools will be open to the community by call-in reservations only and swimmers can expect to go through a safety screening before entering.
The City of Wilmington pools are operated by the YMCA of Southeastern NC. Both the Y and the City of Wilmington have been working with local health officials to ensure the safety and well-being of pool users during the coronavirus pandemic. All state and local guidelines and recommendations will be followed.
The city’s Robert Strange Pool recently opened to the public on Monday, June 22 and Legion Stadium Pool will open on Friday, July 3. Northside Pool is undergoing major renovations and will reopen soon.
This summer the YMCA will be providing family swim, lap swim, and deep water jogging times as well as deep water aerobics classes between the hours of 11:30am and 5:00pm Mondays through Fridays, and 1:00pm through 5:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is just $2/adult and $1/child. Reservations are required to use the city pools and can be made the day of swim.

All pool users are required to go through a safety screening, wear face coverings/masks when entering, and arrive swim ready. Showers will be closed and all patrons will be asked to wash their hands and rinse off on pool deck before entering the water. Pool users with a reservation will be designated to a specific area in and out of the pool to minimize contact with others. All handrails, tables, benches and commonly touched surfaces will be cleaned between every group of swimmers. For more information visit www.ymcasenc.org/citypools
With the opening of the city’s outdoor pools, the YMCA will be offering a modified version of its Swim for Life program Saturday mornings during the month of July. Swim for Life is a free water safety and swim lessons program offered to the community to help prevent drownings in our area. The program free is designed to teach children and adults about pool, beach and boat safety, as well as basic swimming skills.
Summer sessions will be offered at the Robert Strange Pool on Saturday mornings from 9:00am-12:15pm on the following days: July 11, July 18, July 25 and August 1. Swim for Life is available for children and adults ages 5 and older. The Y will also be adding a Float for Life program for preschoolers ages 3 to 4. Registration opens Monday, June 29.
