On March 27, 2025, the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina hosted its highly anticipated Chairman’s Social, an evening dedicated to recognizing the outstanding individuals and organizations making a meaningful impact on the Y’s mission. This annual event serves as an opportunity to reflect on the YMCA’s progress and honor those who help drive positive change in the community.

One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the YMCA’s Impact Awards, which recognize individuals and organizations whose contributions have significantly supported the YMCA’s programs and initiatives. This year’s honorees included the following:

Volunteer Recognition: Amy Gavin
An elementary school teacher and passionate advocate for youth, Amy is a driving force behind the Girls on the Run/STRIDE program. As a coach, she goes above and beyond to ensure every child feels valued and empowered, rallying volunteers, removing participation barriers, and turning the season-ending 5K into a true celebration. Embodying the YMCA’s core values, Amy’s dedication leaves a lasting impact on young lives.

Sponsorship Recognition: EmergeOrtho
A dedicated supporter of the Y for over a decade, EmergeOrtho has played a vital role in shaping the runner’s community. As the title sponsor of the EmergeOrtho 5K, their commitment goes beyond financial contributions—they actively participate by walking, running, volunteering, and cheering on athletes. In 2024, their support helped over 1,400 runners, including 630 youth athletes, cross the finish line, fostering confidence, healthy habits, and community spirit.

Charitable Recognition: Fraser and Rogene Perry
Lifelong supporters of the Y, Fraser and Rogene Perry have shown unwavering generosity and dedication to the community. Since 1970, Fraser has served on the Board of Directors and Finance Committee, while both have consistently stepped up to support the Y’s mission. Their passion for giving and inspiring healthy, active lives has created a legacy that will benefit generations to come.

Partnership Recognition: YWCA Lower Cape Fear
A vital partner in community programming, YWCA Lower Cape Fear played a key role in developing the Schools in Pools initiative, helping secure a $1.9 million grant to provide free swim lessons for all second graders in New Hanover County. Their collaboration and commitment to water safety education continues to make a lasting impact on local youth.

Because of the generosity and support of the community, the YMCA continues to be a vital resource to more than 30,000 members and program participants across six counties, providing essential services that strengthen families, individuals, and communities. With the continued support of its dedicated members and partners, the Y looks forward to another year of transformative impact.
