Feeding More Kids: YMCA Expands Summer Reach
May 27, 2025
The YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina is proud to announce the launch of its expanded Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) for 2025. Beginning today and continuing through August, this initiative aims to provide free, nutritious meals to children aged 18 and under across rural communities in southeastern North Carolina. Children will receive food boxes containing seven days' worth of breakfasts and lunches. The boxes adhere to USDA guidelines and contain the five components of a balanced meal including fruit, vegetables, whole grains, a meat/meat alternative, and milk.
In 2024, the YMCA distributed over 54,000 breakfasts and lunches, totaling approximately 365,000 pounds of food. This year, the program is expanding to include two additional sites in Brunswick County and a new site in Harnett County, in partnership with the YMCA of the Sandhills.
