Run with Purpose: YMCA’s Tri-Span 5K & 10K Race Empowers Cancer Survivors
Lace up your running shoes and join the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina for the 44th Annual Tri-Span 5K, 10K, and Livestrong Mile on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Riverfront Park in downtown Wilmington. This beloved summer race offers something for everyone—whether you're aiming to set a new personal record or simply walking to show support for cancer survivors.
Proceeds from the race benefit Livestrong at the YMCA, a free health and wellness program that empowers adult cancer survivors to rebuild strength and confidence after treatment.
“Our Livestrong program meets survivors where they are and helps them improve their fitness level. This race makes that possible,” says Lori Campbell, a Livestrong instructor and cancer survivor herself. “The lives touched and the fun we share during the Livestrong classes is unbelievably motivating for both our staff and the participants. Anyone who runs, volunteers, or donates to this program is part of their journey.”
Participants can choose from:
- A 5K course weaving through historic downtown Wilmington
- A challenging 10K course that crosses all three downtown bridges: the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, S. Thomas Rhodes Bridge, and Isabel Holmes Bridge
- The Livestrong Mile, a scenic walk along the Cape Fear Riverwalk
- Or a virtual race option is also available for those who want to participate from anywhere.
Please note that race routes are open to vehicle traffic. Police and volunteers will be stationed throughout the course to assist with safety.
