As the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina continues to grow in reach and impact, the organization is investing in strong, mission-driven leadership to guide its next chapter. With expanded services, new partnerships, and evolving community needs, the Y is proud to announce the appointments of three leaders who will help shape this exciting future: Jeremy Hardy, Ashley Bethea, and William “Bill” Nunez Jr.

Jeremy Hardy – Executive Director, Midtown YMCA

Jeremy Hardy joins the Midtown YMCA as Executive Director, bringing over a decade of nonprofit leadership and a heart for community service. Most recently, Jeremy led Vigilant Hope, where he launched job training programs and mobile services for underserved populations in Wilmington. Jeremy’s official start date was Monday, August 4, 2025.

“Jeremy’s experience in community engagement and innovative programming makes him the perfect person to guide Midtown YMCA’s continued growth,” said Meghan Merritt, YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina’s Chief Operating Officer.

Ashley Bethea – Executive Director, School-Aged and Early Learning Programs

Ashley Bethea has been promoted to Executive Director of School-Aged and Early Learning Programs, a role that reflects the growing scale and complexity of the Y’s youth development work. Ashley will oversee afterschool care, preschool, summer camp, and other enrichment programs across Southeastern North Carolina. In her previous role as Regional Education Director, Ashley led efforts to enhance curriculum, grow enrollment, and build community partnerships within New Hanover County. Ashley’s official start date was July 16, 2025.

"Ashley’s leadership is essential as we scale our youth and early learning programs to meet rising demand across the region,” said Corey Maarschalk, Vice President of Youth Services for the YMCA. “She brings a deep commitment to excellence, a passion for kids and families, and the operational experience needed to lead this work with vision and heart.”

William “Bill” Nunez Jr. – Executive Director, Sampson County YMCA

Bill Nunez brings more than 25 years of YMCA leadership to his new role as Executive Director of the Sampson County YMCA. Previously Associate VP of Operations for the YMCA of South Florida, Bill oversaw multiple branches and led impactful initiatives in education, food access, and youth development. Bill’s official start date is Friday, August 15, 2025.

“Bill’s depth of experience and community-first mindset will help us expand our services and strengthen our footprint in Sampson County,” said Meghan Merritt.
