YMCA Camp Kirkwood’s Pinecone Promise

An Evening with Camp Alumni & Friends

An Evening with Camp Alumni and Friends

What a meaningful evening we shared at YMCA Camp Kirkwood. Together, we reflected on the memories that make camp so special and recommitted to a shared purpose: ensuring every child has the opportunity to experience the magic of camp.

A Night of Stories & Impact

Throughout the evening, we heard powerful reminders of what Camp Kirkwood makes possible.

Savanah Standifer, Executive Director, spoke to the everyday moments that shape a camper’s experience—moments where confidence grows, friendships form, and joy comes to life.

Joy looks like a camper stepping onto the stage for a lip-sync battle, or finding the courage to try something new—like ziplining or paddleboarding for the first time—surrounded by encouragement and support.

Greg Miller, Advisory Board Chair, reflected on the deeper impact of overnight camp. Camp is more than just fun—it’s an adventure. It’s stepping into the unknown and discovering something meaningful on the other side.

He painted a simple image: the quiet of camp at night, the sound of crickets, and the rare opportunity for kids to slow down, unplug, and connect with the world around them.

Pate Southerland, Chair of Friends of Camp Kirkwood, spoke to the importance of preserving Camp Kirkwood’s legacy—ensuring it remains a place where families return year after year, and where future generations can find a true sense of belonging.

Because of You

Thanks to the generosity of those who attended and gave, we raised more than $28,000 toward our $55,000 goal for 2026. Your support ensures more children can experience Camp Kirkwood—building confidence, forming lasting friendships, and creating memories that stay with them for a lifetime.

If you were unable to join us, there’s still time to make an impact. A gift to the Annual Campaign helps provide scholarships so every child has a place at camp—and a seat around the campfire.

Together, we can share the gift of camp with the next generation.
