We're Breaking Ground on the Midtown YMCA!
This Friday, July 31st, the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina will officially break ground on the expansion of our Midtown YMCA!
This $15 million expansion will transform the Midtown YMCA into a 48,000-square-foot community wellness center featuring:
- An eight-lane, 25-yard indoor swimming pool
- Airnasium with three multi-purpose courts and a full-size basketball court
- Expanded wellness and strength-training areas
- Dedicated group exercise studios
- Classrooms for afterschool care, summer camp and youth enrichment
- Multipurpose spaces designed for social connection
- Outdoor playing fields
- Three locker rooms
- Expanded parking lot and more!
As a YMCA member, you're part of an exciting new chapter! This expansion will allow us to serve more families, expand life-changing programs, and create an even stronger YMCA for our entire community.
Parking Notice for Friday Morning
To accommodate our groundbreaking celebration, parking at the Midtown YMCA will be more limited than usual on Friday, July 31, between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
If you're planning to visit the Y during that time, we encourage you to allow a few extra minutes for parking and arrival. Our YMCA staff will be onsite to assist with parking and help direct traffic.

Construction Begins in August
Construction is expected to begin in August 2026, and we're committed to keeping the Midtown YMCA open throughout the project with minimal disruptions to your YMCA experience.
As construction progresses, there may be temporary changes to parking, facility access, or program locations. We'll communicate those updates well in advance whenever possible.
