With a focus on safety, health, social growth and academic enhancement, the Y Afterschool program serves students in grades K-8 with a variety of programmatic and activity options to explore and develop their interests and talents. Each day, depending on the site and program, children are given the opportunity to partake in a variety of physical activities including sports, team building, swimming, outside play, group exercise classes, and more! Children are offered a healthy snack, and provided with a minimum of 30 minutes of structured homework help. Our YMCA Afterschool Program follows Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) Standards and takes pride in promoting a healthier lifestyle by engaging children in their well being of spirit, mind and body.
The Y operates six Afterschool Care sites that serves New Hanover County Schools each day that school is in session. At the end of the school day, depending on the school, students either remain at their school for Afterschool Care under the care of Y staff or a Y bus transports them to their appropriate Afterschool location. Programs operate from the end of the school day until 6:00pm.
The Y serves students who attend school on a year round calendar all year long! Like our Traditional Elementary Afterschool Program, we will offer Afterschool Programming every day your child is in school. Additionally, during intercession breaks, children will have the opportunity to come to the Nir Family YMCA for a full day of activities where children will learn new sports and games, create arts and crafts, develop good sportsmanship, be a part of a team, build new friendships, swim and learn to be healthy!
The Y operates one Afterschool Care site that serves the Leland and surrounding areas each day that school is in session. At the end of the school day, a Y bus transports students to Lifepoint Church Leland. Programs operate from the end of the school day until 6:00pm. *****Please note, Lifepoint Church Leland is currently not open for programming. We anticipate having full programming at Lifepoint Church Leland sometime in the middle part of October; in the meantime, students will be bused to the Nir Family YMCA. Parents may pick up at the Nir Family YMCA until 5:25pm. At that time, all remaining students will be bused to Lifepoint Church Leland and can be picked up from 5:45pm to 6:00pm. Thank you for supporting the Y in this transition as we begin to offer both Summer Camp and Afterschool programming in Leland!
For the 2019-2020 school year, the Y will be busing Coastal Preparatory students to the Edge Sports Center Academy. With a focus on safety, health, social growth, physical education, and academic enhancement, the Y Afterschool Program serves students with a variety of programmatic and activity options to enhance your child’s confidence, enrich his or her social and physical development, explore and develop interests and talents, and encourage self-expression. At the end of the each school day, enrolled Afterschool students will be released into the care of Y staff where they will be bussed to the Edge Sports Center. On a daily basis, children are given the opportunity to partake in a variety of physical activities, including sports, team building, arts & crafts, exercise, and more. We offer a healthy snack, and provide a minimum of 30 minutes of structured homework help. The Y Afterschool program follows Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards and takes pride in promoting a healthier lifestyle by engaging children in their well being of spirit, mind, and body. The Y Afterschool program is grounded on the character development traits of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith.
The Y's Middle School Afterschool Care program, for students in grades 6-8, has a focus on fitness and athletic training. Students will have the opportunity to daily compete and grow in agility, strength, and overall healthy well-being. They will utilize the program areas available at both the Nir Family YMCA and Midtown YMCA locations, including the cardio and selectorized equipment and other areas such as spin bikes and more. Additionally, everyone will have the opportunity to work on homework and enjoy a healthy snack each day.
