Afterschool Care

With a focus on safety, health, social growth and academic enhancement, the Y Elementary Afterschool program serves students in grades K-5 with a variety of programmatic and activity options to explore and develop their interests and talents. Each day, children are given the opportunity to partake in a variety of physical activities including sports, team building, swimming, outside play, group exercise classes, and more! Kids are offered a healthy snack, and provided with a minimum of 30 minutes of structured homework help. Our YMCA Afterschool Program follows Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) Standards and takes pride in promoting a healthier lifestyle by engaging children in their well being of spirit, mind and body.

Traditional Elementary

The Y operates 4 Afterschool Care sites every day that New Hanover County Schools are in session. At the end of the school day, depending on the school, students either remain at their school for Afterschool Care under the care of Y staff or a Y bus transports them to their appropriate Afterschool location. Programs operate from the end of the school day until 6:00pm.

Year-Round Elementary

The Y serves students who attend school on a year round calendar all year long! Like our Traditional Elementary Afterschool Program, we will offer Afterschool Programming every day your child is in school. Additionally, during intercession breaks, children will have the opportunity to come to the Y for a full day of activities where children will learn new sports and games, create arts and crafts, develop good sportsmanship, be a part of a team, build new friendships, swim and learn to be healthy!
