Middle School Afterschool Program
The YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina Middle School Afterschool Program provides a safe, nurturing environment exclusively tailored for students in grades 6–8. Currently offered in New Hanover County, our program focuses on keeping middle schoolers active, connected, and inspired in a space where they truly belong. To make the afternoon seamless for families, students are bussed directly from their school via YMCA transportation to their designated branch—either the Midtown YMCA or the Nir Family YMCA. Every afternoon until 6:00 PM, students have the opportunity to build lasting friendships, stay energized through targeted physical fitness and outdoor play, and engage in creative team building and arts and crafts—all while enjoying a daily healthy snack. We balance physical activity and fun with academic support by providing 30 minutes of structured homework help each day. To help middle schoolers discover new talents and express themselves, the program also features unique, site-based quarterly clubs focused on diverse interests like esports, writing, sports, arts, and community service.
