BIO:
My husband Brad and I have two children, Slade and Shayley. I love being his wife and their mom! I was born and raised in Wilmington. My passion is people! It is a privilege for me to part of a person's personal health journey. Helping people achieve their fitness goals, whether it be for health benefits or simply to be able to do their activities of daily living, is my personal goal as an instructor and trainer. I started working for the Y when the Express Y opened in August, 2015. I love the warm and welcoming atmosphere at the Y and I am proud to be part of this organization. In my personal training career, so far, I have primarily worked with the aging population to help with building strength, endurance, dealing with rheumatoid arthritis, De Quervain's contracture, and maintaining their ability to perform activities of daily living.  As a trainer and instructor, it is a privilege to work with anyone who needs encouragement and motivation to start, continue, or maintain their health and fitness goals.

I enjoying trying new sports and physical activities.  Fortunately for me, I like when I am not good a movement or sport and can see improvement and progress.  I have had many opportunities to get better at things.  Fortunately for you, I have been on the receiving end of phenomenal trainers and some apathetic, ineffectual trainers.  I know what it feels like to be looking for guidance in this arena. My efforts are successful when a client notices improvement in their everyday life and can trace it back to the time spent with me in the gym.

As a fitness professional, I want to demonstrate my passion for fitness, health and overall well-being for others. Furthermore, I wish to teach, help and coach individuals to achieve their fitness goals and improve their quality of life. I found my love for fitness and health during my seven year hiatus in the Army.  This passion developed from being pushed to my absolute limit every day. Whenever I thought I had nothing left I always found some kind of motivation to keep me going. Although, I do not have to wake up early to workout anymore……..that does not mean you can’t!

Bio:
Growing up I loved sports and couldn't get enough of them. From fundamentals, to technique, teamwork, and strategy - I lived for it. I played on as many teams as my schedule allowed, including basketball, softball, volleyball, soccer, and XC. In college, my passion for sports continued and I jumped at opportunities to learn and play club rugby, ultimate frisbee, beach volleyball, and flag football. From this passion, I selected my undergraduate degree and completed my internship at Eugene Ashley High School as a freshman Health and P.E. teacher and JV Girls Basketball Assistant Coach. In 2012, I started working for the YMCA as a Kids Zone Coach, teaching a fitness class for 5-12 year olds, 6 days a week. Over the years I've picked up hours and experience throughout many departments working as an after school counselor, after school site director, camp counselor, lifeguard, child watch caretaker, and wellness coach. I love teaching and working with youth, but I soon realized I wanted to teach individuals who wanted to learn. So I started studying and earned my Personal Training Certification. I'm excited for the opportunity to use my passion for teaching and fitness to help others gain the tools and support they need to achieve their goals!

I have a passion to help people reach whatever goals they set for themselves, and I consider myself fortunate to teach others and learn from each person I coach. I was a scholarship swimmer for NC State University and an Olympic Trial participant. I have over 20 years' experience in assisting people with their swimming, and have coached hundreds of people from non-swimmers to triathletes.  I am focused on teaching efficient technique, and tailor the instruction to meet individual needs.  Being a Post Rehab Exercise Specialist allows me to adapt the stroke technique and training to reduce unnecessary joint stress and strengthen the affected area.  My strength is connecting with each person where they are in relation to their current comfort in the water and moving them forward at the pace that is best for them.
