Customize Your Training Plan

Interested in training outdoors or virtually? Ask your trainer how you can customize your training plan! Please note that virtual personal training requires internet access, a device capable of using Zoom or Skype, and a workout space at home. We also offer plans tailored to your specific needs or age group:

Adaptive Fitness Training
Our trainers will create exercise routines to match your specific needs. Ask us about our wheelchair-accessible equipment and other adaptive programs available at the Y!

Mobility Training - Great for Active Older Adults!
Are you having challenges with range of motion during your regular workout or feeling imbalanced where one side of the body is stronger and/or more mobile than the other? Our personal trainers can assess your mobility challenges and prescribe a plan to get you where you want to be.

Post-Physical Therapy Training
Have you been released from physical therapy and need a little extra guidance? Our personal trainers can work with your injury and your physical therapist to create a plan to get you back on track.

Sports-Specific Training

This is suited toward athletes looking to specialize in their sport(s) discipline. We will tailor your routine to enhance your sports performance. Speed, agility, acceleration, mobility, flexibility, recovery, preparation, and maintenance are some of the topics you will cover with your trainer.

Weight Lifting for Teens
Is your son or daughter involved in high school sports and they're using the weight room at school? Our personal trainers can work with your child to ensure they learn proper technique for a lifetime of health and wellness.

Charlotte

My family joined the Y when my children were very young. I was inspired by the first Y instructor I met to make exercise a part of my weekly routine because of her enthusiasm and encouragement. She instilled the necessity of proper form and changing up formats. Working out soon became a passion, and I pursued getting my group exercise certification. I have worked at the Y for over 20 years instructing several different formats. I most recently obtained my personal training certification. My goal in working at the Y has always been to motivate and inspire others to meet their fitness goals the same way I was motivated during that first class I attended.

Education & Certifications:

  • Certified Personal Trainer with ISSA
  • Group Exercise Instructor
  • Kickboxing Instructor
  • Barre Instructor

Staying fit and healthy has been a life-long pursuit for me. Taking what I’ve learned over the years, I try to instill that same passion in others. I retired last year from my long business career in the Major Appliance industry. I am most proud that much of my career was spent in a training role, from mentoring new employees to hosting Critical Thinking and Problem Solving seminars. That training experience has been a valuable asset for personal training. I really enjoy working with seniors, which is why I got my Senior Fitness Specialist Certification. No matter what age, I would be honored to work with all Y members to achieve their health and fitness goals.

Education & Certifications:
  • ACE Certified Personal Trainer
  • Senior Fitness Specialist

I grew up participating in a variety of sports, but my love for running began while attending UNCW and working in the Wilmington community. My interest in endurance training did not begin until my father, a retired marine, was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease, and I wanted to dedicate my time to something difficult too. I decided to participate in a triathlon, and I completed the B2B Half Ironman in 2013. I have been fortunate to work with a wide range of individuals varying from early adolescence, postural correction, sport specific, prenatal/post partum, and aging population. Everyone has a different goal for health & fitness, but the method for change is the same. I have always loved what the Y stands for and have participated in several GOTR programs and races. I am so happy to be here!

Education & Certifications:

  • UNCW BA in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration Physical Education

Perry

Aquatic Personal Trainer

I have a passion to help people reach whatever goals they set for themselves, and I consider myself fortunate to teach others and learn from each person I coach. I was a scholarship swimmer for NC State University and an Olympic Trial participant. I have over 20 years of experience in assisting people with their swimming and have coached hundreds of people from non-swimmers to triathletes. I am focused on teaching efficient technique and tailor the instruction to meet individual needs. Being a Post Rehab Exercise Specialist allows me to adapt the stroke technique and training to reduce unnecessary joint stress and strengthen the affected area. My strength is connecting with each person where they are in relation to their current comfort in the water and moving them forward at the pace that is best for them.
