Meet our Trainers

My husband Brad and I have two children, Slade and Shayley. I love being his wife and their mom! I was born and raised in Wilmington. My passion is people! It is a privilege for me to part of a person's personal health journey. Helping people achieve their fitness goals, whether it be for health benefits or simply to be able to do their activities of daily living, is my personal goal as an instructor and trainer. I started working for the Y when the Express Y opened in August, 2015. I love the warm and welcoming atmosphere at the Y and I am proud to be part of this organization. In my personal training career, so far, I have primarily worked with the aging population to help with building strength, endurance, dealing with rheumatoid arthritis, De Quervain's contracture, and maintaining their ability to perform activities of daily living.  As a trainer and instructor, it is a privilege to work with anyone who needs encouragement and motivation to start, continue, or maintain their health and fitness goals.

Chris M.
As a fitness professional, I want to demonstrate my passion for fitness, health and overall well-being for others. Furthermore, I wish to teach, help and coach individuals to achieve their fitness goals and improve their quality of life. I found my love for fitness and health during my seven year hiatus in the Army.  This passion developed from being pushed to my absolute limit every day. Whenever I thought I had nothing left I always found some kind of motivation to keep me going. Although, I do not have to wake up early to workout anymore…that does not mean you can’t!

  • ACE Functional Training Specialist
  • Sandhill’s Community College: Health and Fitness Science
  • University of North Carolina at Wilmington: Exercise Science 2018

Growing up I loved sports and couldn't get enough of them. From fundamentals, to technique, teamwork, and strategy - I lived for it. In 2012, I started working for the YMCA as a Kids Zone Coach, teaching a fitness class for 5-12 year olds, 6 days a week. Over the years I've picked up hours and experience throughout many departments working as an after school counselor, after school site director, camp counselor, lifeguard, child watch caretaker, and wellness coach. I love teaching and working with youth, but I soon realized I wanted to teach individuals who wanted to learn. I enjoy personal training as I can use my passion for teaching and fitness to help others gain the tools and support they need to achieve their goals!
Education and Certifications:
  • BA in K-12 Physical Education & Health from UNCW

I am a transplant from New York and am settled in to my new home in Wilmington, NC.  My fitness career officially started in 1996 (when I was 12, haha) when I became AFAA Certified in Group Exercise.  I have always had a passion for sports and fitness.  I had to be one of the few that actually looked forward to physical education in school.  I played softball, volleyball and basketball both competitively and recreationally.  I currently hold certifications in personal training, spinning, SilverSneakers, TRX and Kettlebell.  I have been teaching for over 20 years and truly love that I can help others achieve their fitness goals.  Whether you’ve been working out for a while or just starting this journey, know that I am here to help.  Some of my favorite classes to teach are Boot Camp and Straps to name a few. My favorite type of training is creating HIIT workouts to keep your metabolism burning calories even after your workout is over.  I enjoy running 5Ks and have a lot of energy. I look forward to helping you reach your goals

Raised in La Jolla, Ca. I have always loved being active. Whether I was competing in Hunter Jumper equestrian events with my horse or traveling to gymnastics competitions I was constantly busy. I graduated from Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and began an acting career in Los Angeles. After I married and had children I found CrossFit and it was love at first lift!! I’ve now devoted myself to helping others fall in love with fitness as well. A trainer and instructor at the Y for almost 10 years, I am extremely passionate about what I do and it shows in my work. I believe fitness is not a one size fits all and that every client needs a personal approach to their fitness journey. I set goals and work with my clients to create their own personalized program. Let me help you become the best version of yourself!!

My appreciation for how important health and wellness began as a teenager when my Mother lost a sibling, and her parents early in their lives within a 5 year span due to health complications. I grew up participating in a variety of sports, but my love for running began while attending UNCW and working in the Wilmington community.  My interest in endurance training did not begin until my father, a retired marine, was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease & I wanted to dedicate my time to something difficult too.  I decided to participate in a triathlon. As his journey continued so did my aspirations, and I completed the B2B Half Ironman in 2013. I have had the privilege to learn personally that exercise is academic & there are medically based guidelines that can help any age group or fitness level reach their goal. I have been fortunate to work with a wide range of individuals varying from early adolescence, postural correction, sport specific, prenatal/post partum, and aging population. Everyone has a different goal for health & fitness, but the method for change is the same.  I have always loved what the Y stands for and have participated in several GOTR programs and races.  I am so happy to be here!
