Swim For Life

Many people within our community often do not learn the critical water safety and swimming skills to keep them safe. The Y is working to address this important issue by offering Swim for Life, a free water safety and swimming program. With so many bodies of water throughout the Wilmington area, it is critical that we provide individuals with the basic knowledge of water safety to reduce the risk of drowning or injury. The Y offers Swim for Life every fall and spring thanks to the generous support of our benefactor Channing Daniel.

COVID UPDATE

Parents please be advised of new modifications, for both private and group lessons, going forward to adhere to our state and local policies and guidelines.

As our state has moved into Phase 3 for reopening we will now be having our instructors back in the water to teach.  All instructors will be required to wear face shields while teaching, as well as washing hands, shields and equipment in between lessons.  During lessons each child will have their own kickboard or noodle as needed for the lesson.  We will NOT have extra goggles or toys available.  We will no longer be requiring parents to be in the water with their child during lessons; except for our parent-child Stage A and B classes.  If a parent does want to get in to help their child alongside the instructor that is perfectly okay.  Additionally, there will be no family swim while swim lessons are in the pool.  The entire pool will be closed off to just lessons during specific times.  I know some of you are Y members, and have used our Kids Zone for siblings, so please know this area has now reopened under limited hours.  The Kids Zone schedule can be seen on our website or Y app.  If you are not assisting your child in the water, we have a few benches for you to spread out while you watch your child enjoy the water! Please know we have limited capacity and we recommend only one adult per family bringing children to the pool for their lessons.

We will be requiring a parent in the water for our Float for Life program.  This program, within our Swim for Life program, is for 3 and 4 year olds.  We will also be sectioning off the pool to provide physical barriers to separate between the different lessons.
