Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity from our YMCA V6 curriculum.
Stage 5 | Stroke Development
Youth 5-12 years, Teen & Adult 13+ years
In Stage 5, students work on more advanced stroke development and better technique for all four competitive strokes. The emphasis on water safety continues through treading water and sidestroke.
1:6 for youth and adults

Able to swim freestyle and backstroke for 25 yards.

Able to swim breaststroke and dolphin kick for 15 yards

Able to tread water using multiple kicks for 1 minute
Stage 6 | Stroke Mechanics
Youth 5-12 years, Teen & Adult 13+ years
In Stage 6, students continue to build on their stroke development and build swimming endurance. This is a GREAT placement for those competitive swimmers looking to get faster and stronger! They also discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle.

Able to swim butterfly with over arm recovery for 25 yards

Able to swim breaststroke with proper stroke rhythm for 25+ yards
