Swim Strokes

Skills to support a healthy lifestyle
Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity.

Jan-May 2020 Lessons

**CLASSES MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 3 PARTICIPANTS IN ORDER TO HOLD THE CLASS. IF THERE ARE LESS THAN THAT THE SWIM INSTRUCTORS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO COMBINE CLASSES WITH SIMILAR GOALS AND ABILITIES OR CANCEL THE CLASS.**

STAGE 4

Students in Stage 4 develop stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and learn the breaststroke, kick and butterfly kick. Water safety is reinforced through treading water and elementary backstroke.

Instructor to Student Ratio

1:4 for preschool and 1:5 for youth and 1:6 for adults

Ages

Preschool 3-5 years | School age 6-14 years | Teen & Adult 15+ years

Qualifications
  • Able to submerge & retrieve an object in chest deep water
  • Able to swim front crawl 15 yards while taking a breath
  • Able to swim-float-swim 15 yards
  • Able to jump in & tread water for 30 seconds
  • Able to swim to wall & exit

STAGE 5 

Students in Stage 5 work on more advanced stroke development and better technique for all four competitive strokes. The emphasis on water safety continues through treading water and sidestroke.  Good placement for competitive swimmers looking to get faster.

1:5 for youth

Qualifications
  • Able to swim freestyle and backstroke for 25 yards.

  • Able to swim breastroke and dolphin kick for 15 yards

  • Able to tread water using multiple kicks for 1 minute

STAGE 6  

Students continue to build on their stroke development build swimming endurance. They also discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle.   This is a great swim stage to become prepared or to prepare for competitive swim team.

1:5 for youth

Ages

School age 6-14 years

Qualifications
  • Able to swim freestyle with rotary breathing & backstroke for 25+ yards
  • Able able to swim butterfly with over arm recovery for 25 yards
  • Able to swim breaststroke with proper stroke rhythm for 25+ yards
  • Able to dive from kneeling position

Cost

Y Member: $30 / Weekend Sessions or Stage A Classes (4 Lessons)
Y Member: $60 / Weekday Sessions (8 Lessons)
 
Non-Member: $40 / Weekend Sessions or Stage A Classes (4 Lessons)
Non-Member: $80 / Weekday Sessions (8 Lessons)
