Walking and Running Programs
Interested in walking, jogging, or running but don’t know where to start? The Y’s Walk to Jog (W2J) and Jog to Run (J2R) programs are the perfect solution for you! These 8-week introductory programs ease you into running gradually. Throughout the training the two groups will meet twice a week to build endurance and confidence for each participant to complete a 3.1 mile race! Our skilled and motivating coaches will give you the skills and self-assurance to introduce you to a lifetime of running!
W2J and J2R is held every fall and spring.
Walk to Jog (W2J)
This is a less – intense 8-week training agenda focusing on the basics of walking mechanics gradually preparing for a slow to moderate pace jog. This is a beginner level program modified for those athletes just getting started on their race training journey or returning after an injury/extended absence.
Jog to Run (J2R)
This is a higher intensified 8-week workout regime that begins with a slower pace jog and graduates to a faster jog/running movement pattern. Designed by our Community Health Staff Member, and certified run coach the J2R program will prepare the beginner to seasoned race participant for their upcoming race through a steady routine of anaerobic and aerobic workouts.
Both programs are open to all non-member and members of the YMCA of Southeastern NC with all proceeds going to cover race fees and coaching programs.
