Water Safety Programs
Safety Around Water
This program was previously known as Swim For Life.
Many people within our community often do not learn the critical water safety and swimming skills necessary to stay safe around water. The Y is working to address this important issue by offering Safety Around Water, a free water safety and swimming program. With so many bodies of water throughout our area, it is critical that we provide individuals with the basic knowledge of water safety to reduce the risk of drowning or injury. The Y offers Safety Around Water every fall and spring thanks to the generous support of our benefactor Channing Daniel.
International Water Safety Day
According to the CDC, about 5 children, ages 14 and younger, drown daily in the United States. For every child who dies from drowning, another five are rescued. Our goal as a community is to instill confidence in every child around the water so they can be safe and have fun. Bring your suit and get ready to learn basic skills for safety. Play on the splash pad after your pool time and enjoy concessions.
The World's Largest Swimming Lesson
Join in with aquatic centers, waterparks and pools all around the globe as we learn important water competency and safety skills to combat the leading cause of unintended death for children ages 1-4, the second leading cause for children ages 5-14 and third leading cause of unintentional injury-related death worldwide.
