Water Safety Programs
Safety Around Water
Free Water Safety and Swim Lessons
Many people within our community often do not learn the critical water safety and swimming skills necessary to stay safe around water. The Y is working to address this important issue by offering Safety Around Water, a free water safety and swimming program. With so many bodies of water throughout our area, it is critical that we provide individuals with the basic knowledge of water safety to reduce the risk of drowning or injury.

An Initiative to Teach 2nd Grade Students How To Swim
The YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina’s Schools in Pools program is a community-wide water safety initiative designed to ensure every child has access to lifesaving swim instruction and water safety education.
In partnership with New Hanover County Schools, the YWCA Lower Cape Fear, and NSEA Swim, the program provides free swim lessons and water safety instruction to local second grade students during the school day. Through classroom education and hands-on instruction in the pool, students gain confidence in and around the water while learning critical lifesaving skills.
