Camp Policies and More Information

We want every camper to have a positive experience while at YMCA Camp Kirkwood. To create this environment, we expect our campers to follow our 4 rules of camp:

  • Make Safe Choices
  • Be Kind
  • Be Respectful
  • Have Fun!

Electronics & Cell Phones

Camp is most meaningful when campers are focused on developing relationships rather than looking at electronic devices. Thus, we require all campers to leave electronics at home. Camp will confiscate any cell phones or other electronic devices and return them at the end of the week. Camp is not responsible for any devices. Please do not send your camper with a cell phone or smart watch etc. Our goal is to give campers a week of electronic-free distraction. Help us achieve this goal and prove to your campers they can thrive without their devices! We recommend start limiting their screen & electronic time prior to start of camp so it is not all at once.

Camp Health, CampDOC, & Medical Information

Community Health

To keep all campers healthy:

  • Do not send sick campers to camp. Children must be fever-free, symptom-free, and lice-free for at least 48 hours without medication before camp.

  • If a child becomes ill at camp, the Camp Nurse will contact parents for pick-up. If parents are unavailable, we will reach emergency contacts.

  • Minor injuries (cuts, scrapes) will be treated by CPR/First Aid-certified staff.

  • Serious illness or injury: Camp Director or Nurse will contact parents immediately.

  • Our licensed Camp Nurse is on-site all week, supporting camper health.

  • We follow all CDC, ACA, and Pender County Health Department guidelines.

  • Refunds will not be issued if a child must go home due to illness or injury.

CampDOC

  • All campers must complete a CampDoc profile including a signed physical.

  • CampDoc is our secure online system for health records. Families will receive an email invitation to complete forms.

  • Profiles must be 100% complete at least 2 weeks before camp.

  • CampDoc allows you to authorize pick-ups, list allergies, request cabin groups, and more.

  • Profiles stay with your camper year after year—no need to print or send paperwork.

Forms & Medication

  • A physical signed by a medical professional must be uploaded to CampDoc (required for ACA accreditation).

  • Medications must be given to the Camp Nurse at drop-off in their original container. Unmarked meds cannot be administered.

  • Provide only enough medication for the camp stay; extra will be returned at check-in.

  • Over-the-counter (OTC) medications will only be given if needed; daily OTC meds should be noted in CampDoc.
